...Charge 1,345 to court,Prosecute 1530 suspects, secure 62 convictions, recover property worth #106.78million
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 2,141 suspects for various offences within January to March, 2025.
According to a Press release made available to Journalists on Friday by the Spokesperson of the State Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, The command made the followings within 90 days: 42 Armed Robbers arrested, three neutralized, 40 arms recovered, 177 Ammunition, 65 Cultists, 26 stolen cars recovered, 5 kidnappers and 43 Rape suspects arrested.
1345 cases charged to court, 1530 suspects prosecuted, with 62 convictions secured and property valued at one hundred and six million, seven hundred and eighty thousand naira recovered.
The statement reads in part "its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Ogun State Police Command issues this press release to review its quarterly activities and express appreciation to the government and good people of Ogun state for supporting its crime preventive efforts.
"The command intensified its community engagement to facilitate direct interface with citizens in order to bridge communication gap between the police and the people. Feedbacks from this initiative enabled the command to gain better insight to their security concerns and the opportunity for collective solutions to challenges facing our communities.
" The command recorded noticeable reduction in crime rate during the first quarter. This was achieved as a result of the immense support, logistics and funding received from the state government constructive engagement with members of the public, improved access to police facilities, enhanced police visibility on the highways, cooperation of the judiciary, robust collaboration with security agencies in the state and deployment of additional operational assets from Force Headquarters.
Giving the summary of the activities of the Command, CSP Odutola stated "Available record shows that while the command contended with a spike in overall criminal activities in February, there was a noticeable decline in the number of cases investigated and prosecuted in March.
" Conviction of suspects across the three months is relatively stable with a downward trend in the number of suspects arrested for rape but increasing number of suspects were arrested for cult related activities due to pro-active measures emplaced by the anti-cultism unit. Five (5) kidnap suspects were arrested during the period however there was drastic reduction in actual kidnap incidents. Twenty-six (26) stolen vehicles were recovered in the first quarter due to the vigilance of patrol teams conducting stop and search. Some of the drivers stole the vehicles from other states and intended to take advantage of the gateway status of the state to escape.
"The successes recorded and relative peace in the state are as a result of continuous assistance provided by Ogun State Governor, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, CON; technical and logistic support provided by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D.; cooperation of the good people of Ogun State, collaboration with other security agencies and the unyielding effort of Ogun State Police Command.
"The command has been able to predict crime trends and further implement strategies to prevent occurrences. A security shed has been established along Sagamu - Ijebu Ode highway. For travellers’ safety, motorized patrol teams are positioned on both sides of the long bridge along Lagos – Ibadan expressway. One (1) Armoured Personel Carrier each is stationed at Sagamu interchange, Ilaro and Ijebu Ode while two (2) APCs’ are actively deployed to Sagamu axis and Abeokuta metropolis.
"Ogun State Police Command reiterates its commitment to sustain partnership with citizens to keep the state safe and increase investors’ confidence in undertaking business activities. While the command continues to address incessant attack on commercial motorcyclists, riders are advised to prioritize personal safety by refraining from working late into the night.
"Similarly, we appeal to parents to monitor the activities of our secondary school students. Citizens are enjoined to follow the command’s activities on all its social media platforms for timely reporting, information sharing and prompt police intervention.
