The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has committed his first formal visits to paying homage to two paramount rulers in the state, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland and Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona of Ijebuland, as a mark of respect for the traditional stool, and to seek their royal blessings.
CP Ogunlowo underscored the pivotal role traditional rulers play in the smooth running of affairs of the nation, giving their support for and advice to the government, as well as ensuring peace in their domains.
The monarchs, who received the police chief and his entourage with much enthusiasm, pledged their unflinching support for him to succeed, noting that previous CPs in the state identified with them as “fathers”, and thus, tapped a lot from them as custodians of tradition and culture.
The Alake was, however, quick to register his worry over the surge in cult- related violence in Egbaland, and appealed to the CP to vigorously look into it and proffer a lasting solution to the menace.
On his part, the Awujale, in the company with his king makers and palace cabinet, assured the new CP of his unwavering support, as he had always done to his predecessors.
CP Ogunlowo, at the palace of Awujale, announced the provision of an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) as directed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to Ijebu Ode, to boost the security architecture of the area.
