Nigeria Customs Service dethrones Police Machine in ValueJet SWAN Security cup

 




The Desert Lions of Nigeria Customs Service have emerged the champions of the 4th ValueJet SWAN Security cup competition.


The team defeated the defending champions, the Police Machine by four goals to three on penalty shoot-out in the final of the SWAN Championship organised competition played at the main bowl of MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta after the match had ended 2 -2 draw full time.


The tension soaked encounter started with Police Machine dominating the attack and their efforts paid off few minutes into the first half but the men of the Customs Service replied with two goals in both halves.


A player of the Police Machine equalised for his team in the 90th minutes of the game to restore the hope of retaining the trophy won last year but lost out in the penalty shoot outs.


In the third place play off, the Civil Defenders defeated EFCC by a lone goal to win the bronze medal and the prize money of 200 thousand naira.


Speaking at the event, Governor Dapo Abiodun who was represented by the Special Adviser to the governor on Security, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Olusola Subair commended the spirit of sportsmanship demonstrated by various security agencies that participated in the competition.


He also applauded the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, for sustaining the initiative geared towards fostering Unity among the security operatives in the state.


Also, the Chairman, Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Sports Development, Mr Luqman Atobatele gave the assurance that the lawmakers would not relent in partnership relevant stakeholders like SWAN in the development of sports in the state.


Earlier, the SWAN chairman, Mr Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji had explained that competition was part of the commitment of the association to cementing existing relationships among the security agencies in the state.


He commended the participating teams for their support and understanding throughout the competition.


In attendance at the final were the Representative of Ogun State Governor, SSA on Security ,AIG(rtd)  Subair,the Assistant Director, Radio Nigeria Paramount FM Abeokuta and other top media executives, Senior Security officers from the the Police, Customs,Nscdc.
