The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc Ogun region, has noted with dismay the acts of vandals who attempted to cart away the 2.5MVA power transformer designated to serve Ikoto community and environs of Ijebu Ode despite its campaign against vandalism/energy theft within its network area. In collaboration with the Federal Government Special Investigation and Prosecution Task Force on Electricity Offences (SIPTEO), The Nigeria Police Force and the Ogun state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps with other security agencies, IBEDC is actively pursuing investigations and legal actions against individuals and business owners involved in Vandalism/energy theft.
The escalating figures of vandalism has prompted a strategic partnership with the SIPTEO, a federal government agency, The Nigeria Police Force and the Ogun state Command of the NSCDC; dedicated to expediting the investigation and prosecution of offenders within IBEDC's franchise.
The Regional Head Ogun, Engr. Abdulrasaq Jimoh, hereby issues a strong warning to recalcitrant vandals who are particularly targeting Electrical Installations, as the company will no longer handle flippantly, anyone who sabotages the efforts of the company to improve services to its customers.
"We want to send a clear message to our customers that energy theft/vandalism will not be tolerated. Our collaboration with the Federal Government Special Investigation and Prosecution Task Force on Electricity Offences, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps with other security agencies underscores our commitment to ensuring a fair and just electricity distribution system. Energy theft/vandalism not only undermines the integrity of our operations but also deprives IBEDC of the revenue necessary to provide quality services to our customers.”
IBEDC urges customers to refrain from engaging in any form of vandalism/energy theft, emphasizing that the consequences can be severe, as there is no room for negotiation with the SIPTEO Task Force team. Engr. Jimoh also solicits for cooperative efforts of the good citizenry of Ogun State, to invoke their rights to citizen’s arrest, and not allow unscrupulous fellows damage or steal installations meant for their communities.
