"Journalist" and Colour locking horns
...As Emefiele remains National champion Belt holder
A 51 kg Ram, Journalist has knocked out 52kg Ram, Colour in a 21hits headbutts fight organised by Advance Ram Sport Lovers Association of Nigeria,Ogun State Chapter.
The Competition which witnessed Large turnout of Owners of Rams from Lagos,Oyo and. Ogun States was held on Sunday at. St Anne's Primary School.Playing Ground,Oke- ilewo, Abeokuta.
Over 100 Rams of various categories and Weights participated in the competition.
NewsLife Reporter who out of curiosity enquired why the gate of the School was locked on Sunday, was informed that Rams Bouts was going.on the school's playing ground.
Speaking with some of the Ram owners and spectators, many of them disclosed that apart from the passion and fun they derived from nurturing rams for fighting, there are huge monetary gains they derived from the sport.
A 60year Old Rams owner from Ibadan, Oyo State,Alhaji Bashiru Sanni said that he has been in the Ram sport competition for the past 20 years.
He added that he disliked betting on his rams but only derived passion and make do with whatever monetary and Prizes won during competitions. Alhaji Sanni however said" I have sold a well groomed fighting rams for the sum of #600,000 and #1.5m to interested fans of my rams"
The owner of National Belt holder,named Emefiele (56kg)), kabiru Akinwunmi disclosed that Emefiele had the last fight in March,2024 at Eko Jalisco Stadium,Oshodi where the ram retained the belt as National Champion.
He also disclosed that offline and online betting by stakers included means of recouping money spent on rearing the rams for the bouts.
In a brief Chat with the tender of Journalist, who was also the Chairman of Advance Ram Sport Lovers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter,Mr Razor said that he named the ram "Journalist" based on how his spirit directed him.
At the end of the competition in which each ram registered with the sum of #2500 , Plastic Bowls and Small Radio sets were given as Prizes to rams that emerged as winners.
