... Charges Egba Youths to rejig for greatness
The newly coronated Apena of Egbaland,High Chief Suarau Olayiwola Alani Bankole has called for total unity of all the four sections in Egbaland.
He made the call on Saturday at the Ake Palace during his installation as the Apena of Egbaland by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Adedotun Gbadegbo.
The Apena, who commended the Olowu of Owu kingdom, Oba Saka Adelola Matemilola for all the positive changes, impacts and innovation being witnessed in the Owu Palace and Owukingdom implored the monarch to join hands with other kings in Egbaland so as to have total unity.
His words: I commend you for all the innovations you have brought to the Palace. All the changes you are trying to bring, Olohun a duro Tiyin. But I like to kindly bring request that to do you best by joining the other Obas in Egbaland so that we can have total unity. We need it. We need the Egba Unity to progress.
" When we were young, Egba was in absolute unity, Even in England, America, there was no sectional interest of Egba people. Today, we are having murmuring of even large ones of people claiming not to part of us. Yes, ii is true, they were not part of Egba Forest, they were important to us and we were working together and their fathers kindly requested them to come and join us on their way to Alaketu, during the Egba - Dahomey war. So, Kabiyesi, this is a special request.". He stated.
High Chief Suarao Bankole also charged youths in Egbaland to rejig the valour of hard work that had seen past Egba heroes being firsts in various field of endeavors.
The new Apena who rendered the Ogun Iseya anthem to drive the Wake up call, said " What are we doing to keep the flag going? The youth, let us Wake up,, Work hard and make sure we are able to keep the flag flying".
Apena Bankole, while expressing gratitude to God and all the Monarchs especially the Alake of Egbaland and Osiele of Oke-Ona, gave assurance of his readiness to work to with everyone to ensure peace in all areas in Egbaland, adding that it is an affront to a monarch to allow kidnappers in their areas.
" From now on, we have to be very careful, if I have my way, and Kabiyesi allows us, any Oba or Baale that allows kidnappers to operate in his area will be arrested first, because there is no way you won't know people living in your area. I appeal to you to be ready to work with us in the Palace.
" Alake is a soldier, but he is father of us all, he has been treating us well . he needs our utmost sincerity, Please, let us work with Kabiyesi to get the success. We have Bakogun, Otun, Osi, Seriki and so on and yet kidnappers kidnaping our children, what are the Ologun doing? Are you always sleeping, dozing or meditating? He concluded.
In his remarks, former Governor of Ogun State and Akinrogun of Egbaland, Chief Olusegun Osoba relayed how the new Apena played significant roles when the reigning Alake and other Princes were jostling for the revered stool.
He said " The Apena standing before before us was one of the king makers. Late Chief Taiwo, who was my Commissioner was also one of the kingmakers. He(Apena) not could say all his contributions on the matter. All the thunderous conspiracy was overturned because he was an Akinrogun of one town.
" I want us to know today that the chieftaincy being bestowed on him is one that he merited and entitled to. Because he and some kingmakers strong stance enabled Alake to ascend the throne and ensure the smooth running of the process. If you know what he did. He didn't tell you.
" The import of my saying this morning is that when kingmakers sat down, The man popularly called Caterpillar bulldozed the group of kingmakers saying " The vote we are about to cast is not a hidden one. Everybody should raise up his hand to choose who ever you want to become the Alake, a process we politicians call open ballot and when the result got to the then Gov.Gbenga Daniel, it could not be changed. Among the Kingmakers, it was SOA that moved the motion that it must be an open ballot.

The ceremony had in attendance creme la creme of the society from all walk of life, and at the band stand ,Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey serenading at the reception held at Ake Palace Main Hall.
