The newly elected chairman of the Concerned Pensioners of Ogun State, Otunba Taiwo has pledged that the new leadership of the group would do it best to surpass the former executives.
Comrade Otunba Taiwo made this pledge while delivering his maiden speech. at the change of leadership ceremony of the group on Tuesday at the ASSUSS Hall, Leme, Abeokuta.
Taiwo, who was spoke through the new Vice Chairman 2 of the Concerned Pensioners of Ogun State, Comrade Alikntayo Ibudunni appreciated the former executive members for the accurate report and management the finance of the group
Ibidunni said " They have laid good examples, we are going to do our best to surpass their achievements, we implore them to always be available to guide us and show us the way, I urge them to continue to attend meetings as they had been doing and to participate on the group's platform".
Earlier in an interview with Newslife reporter at the event, the outgoing chairman of the group,Comrade Tayo Adelaja said that the group had been in existence for the past ten years.
Adelaja, who was the Pioneer chairman described the Concerned Pensioners of Ogun state as an offshoot of the State Nigeria Union of Pensioners. He added that the group as a Pressure Group that consisted of Radical Pensioners, was not established to confront the state NUP, but to complete its efforts, fight injustices and any maltreatment meted to the member and as well tread where the NUP is afraid to venture.
"These among others were the major reasons for coming up with the Concerned Pensioners of Ogun State, some government agencies take issues of Pensioners with levity,so these were the reasons for establishing the Concerned Pensioners of Ogun State, to fight injustices and to ensure a better welfare for our Pensioners "
Adelaja who retired as director in the Ministry of Forestry cited some of the achievements of the Pressure Group to include; 'The 2011 Amosun proclamation not to pay the gratuities to Pensioners who were retired by the OGD's administration, we wrote a strong letters to Amosun and at the end of the day he reasoned with us.
Also, the issue of Basic Rent and Transportation, BRT deductions circular issued towards end of Amosun's tenure, it was not acceptable by us. So we challenged the decision, we won the case and the deducted amounts were paid back to those Pensioners affected ".
Adelaja advised the new leadership to continue from where the previous Executives stopped and build on the achievements.
" There is no monopoly of Knowledge, that is way we are anxious to leave and give other people to add value to the group".
A retired Principal and chairman of Association of retired Principals, Egba bloc, Alhaji Najeem Adekunle Gbadamosi also enjoined the new Executive Members to work tirelessly, and not to say they don't have time. 'I wish them more successes that what we have had" he stated.
