The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has organised a sensitization/ mobilisation project to reorient the masses and workers in the country on the need to go for COVID - 19 testing and vaccination as part of efforts to compliment the effort of government on public health management despite the popular belief by many that the pandemic no longer exist.

Speaking at a Press Conference held on Tuesday at the NLC Secretariat, Leme, Abeokuta,the State NLC Co-ordinator Covid-19 Project, Comrade Phillips Abiodun said " COVID-19, when it came, changed the social and economic aspects of our lives. It also transformed the work environment, dictating bow, where and when work is done.
" With the disruption caused by the pandemic in places of work and in the society, it became very necessary for the working people in Nigeria to be mobilized for testing and vaccination against the disease so that the workplace will be free of COVID-19, for optimal productivity to be attained.
" It was in the light of this development that NLC sought the support of the Global fund to undertake the project " Social mobilization for COVID -19 Testing and Vaccination in the workplace ' to compliment the efforts of the government on public health management in Nigeria.The project is being supervised by National Agency for the control of Aids(NACA)".
Comrade Abiodun who highlighted the activities that have been implemented under the project such as ; Review and validation of the workplace Guidelines on Covid-19, The C19 RM grant start orientation Workshop held in 11 and 12 of January in Abuja with 25 participants drawn from the stakeholders' organizations, National Staff orientation meeting on 5th and 6th of July, in Abuja, with 25 participants in attendance, among other activities, added " there may be skeptic and skepticism about COVID 19 with many tempted to ask, where is COVID -19, that labour is disturbing people, this project provides opportunity to test run our readiness for emergency situations. Trade unions as organizations servicing their members are not only to be reactive but also to preempt situations. So, we are using this project to test run out preparedness on how to manage Future emergencies like the coronavirus pandemic or outbreak in the country '
He also informed that people from the Local Governments that the Peer Influencers have succeeded in capturing during the campaigns to various LGs in the state and the masses have the opportunity to come for testing and vaccination starting from 24th Wednesday to 26th Friday, May, 2023 at the NLC Secretariat.
Earlier, a facilitator and member of the implementation team, Comrade Ugoma while addressing the participants said the project being implemented in the state showed that NLC are supporter of good initiatives and workers in the Ogun State are taking responsibility and ownership of their health.
Declaring the seminar open, the Ogun State Chairman of NLC,Comrade Ahmed Benco,, congratulated the participants from the unions, adding that the gains of the seminar will trickled down and as well serve as a reflection of the impactful contributions of the union to the service of humanity.
